What is a Top Level Domain (TLD)?
Every domain name consists of at least two parts. They are of equal importance when someone is trying to find you. ie. yourcompany.TLD. The .TLD represents the Top Level Domain. A TLD is one of the following:
com - commercial (most businesses)
net - network, infrastructure or machine
org - organizations, associations
edu - educational institutions
mil - military addresses
gov - governmental agencies
How long can the name be?
yourcompany is a second level domain and cannot exceed 22 characters. The entire domain name including the .com can not exceed 26 characters. The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen.
Why can’t I just register my domain myself?
InterNIC requires that each domain name be associated with at least 2 name servers to be registered. By associating our nameservers with your domain name, you meet the "active" domain requirement.
What will it cost me for one of the 7 new TLD’s?
The registration process for these new domain levels have not yet been determined. Our cost to you for our service once they become available will be the same as our current pricing structure for domain parking. Once the 7 new domain names are approved we will add search capabilities to our site for the new TLD’s.
What do I get for my money?
For your $40.00 set up fee we will register your domain with the InterNIC, fill out all the necessary paperwork, associate our name servers with your domain and provide you with an "under construction" home page.
Who owns the domain name reserved by Webtownusa.com?
You do. You will be setup as the administrative and billing contacts and Webtownusa.com can be your technical contact. By listing you as the administrative contact, you have complete control over your domain.
How long can I keep a name with Webtownusa.com?
Indefinitely. You may park your domain with us as long as you like. You also have the freedom to move your domain at anytime to any other service provider that you choose at no additional charge. When you create your web site and need a place to host it, Webtownusa.com will credit your $40 toward the set-up of any account you choose.
How long does it take to register my domain name?
Webtownusa.com is an InterNIC Gold Partner and has a 24 hour turn around time. Once we receive your request and payment, we will process it quickly. Once we receive confirmation we will inform you by e-mail. We suggest that you do not publish or advertise your new address until you have received this confirmation.
The domain name I want is taken, what do I do?
You can contact the owner of the name you want and offer to buy it. Or, you can try different variations of the requested name. For example, your-company.com, yourcompany4u.com or any other variation of what you want. Remember, information to the left of the .com is not case sensitive so variations in capitalization will not work. YOURcompany.com won’t work if yourcompany.com is already taken.
